1. Introduction
Edvdo is an AI- and expert-powered career guidance platform that helps school students (grades 8–12) discover career paths aligned with their interests and strengths. The product integrates personalized assessments, AI insights, expert counselling, and school-level management features.
As the sole designer, I was responsible for shaping the entire user experience and interface design, from research and problem framing to wireframing, prototyping, and final UI delivery.
2. Background
Choosing the right career path is one of the most critical decisions in a student’s life, yet many lack structured guidance. Traditional counselling is either inaccessible or inconsistent, while online resources often feel overwhelming.
The product team identified the need for a unified digital solution that could:
- Help students explore careers interactively.
- Enable career experts to guide using structured insights.
- Provide schools with oversight of student progress.
3. The Problem
Through early discussions and desk research, several challenges emerged:
- Students: Struggle to find careers matching their passions; limited exposure to career options.
- Career Experts: Lack tools to track students’ assessments and provide personalized advice.
- Schools: Need dashboards to monitor and manage student progress across batches.
Core Design Challenge: How might we create a digital platform that makes career discovery engaging for students, data-driven for experts, and scalable for schools?
4. The Solution
Inroduced three interconnected portals:
A. Student Portal
- AI-powered assessment tools (interests, personality, aptitude).
- Career Hub & Search: A central library of career paths with structured filters.
- AI Insight Generator: Matches student data with career possibilities.
- Gamified elements: Flashcards, quizzes, and a “Fun Zone” to keep exploration engaging.
B. Career Expert Portal
- Student profiles with assessment history and insights.
- Smart suggestions to support personalized counselling.
- Live data entry forms for tracking guidance sessions.
C. School Management Portal
- Administrative dashboards to track student usage, engagement, and outcomes.
- Batch-level analytics for school management.
5. Design Process
Followed a human-centered design process:
- Empathize – Secondary research on career counselling gaps; informal interviews with students and teachers.
- Define – Synthesized insights into personas: Confused Explorer (student), Guidance Seeker (expert), Administrator (school).
- Ideate – Brainstormed solutions → gamification for engagement, AI + expert dual model for guidance, dashboards for schools.
- Wireframing & Prototyping – Low-fidelity wireframes in Figma → interactive prototypes.
- Test & Refine – Usability testing sessions with 5 students & 2 educators; refined navigation and improved visibility of career insights.
6. Impact & Metrics
Within the first launch phase:
- 50+ students guided through the platform.
- 100+ career assessments completed.
- 10+ educators onboarded as early adopters.
- 80% of students reported increased clarity in career options (feedback survey).
- 60% higher engagement when gamified elements (quizzes, flashcards) were introduced.
